The young Canarian golfer Leo Calasanzio Borsellino, from the Golf del Sur team, had one of the most intense weekends of his career, winning the Canary Islands Championship, held at Tecina Golf (La Gomera). The tournament, held over three days, brought together some of golf’s most promising prospects. Leo shared the flight with his friend Máximo Cabezas and Diego Gross, the current Spanish Under-18 Champion, with whom he had already competed in previous competitions. With three solid rounds of +2, +3, and +4, Leo managed to win the championship, also taking advantage of a less favorable weekend for Gross, who consistently showed his quality with top-level shots.
For Leo, winning the Canary Islands Championship not only qualifies him with three valid rounds for the upcoming Spanish Under-12 Championship, but also the satisfaction of winning the Rafa Cabrera Bello Circuit Scratch Award, consolidating his rise as one of the promising young players in regional and national golf.
“It’s been a super intense weekend, and I need time to savor it all. I want to thank Tecina Golf, the Canary Islands Golf Federation, and my coach, Paco Cea, who was there cheering me on the whole time. A special thanks to my club, Golf del Sur, for giving me everything I need to achieve these results,” Leo said after the championship.
The other two members of Golf del Sur had outstanding performances in their first year as under-12s. Miguel Galindo Aguado finished seventh overall, and Tomás Díaz de Juan eighth. They’re sure to be fighting for victory next year. With Leo at the helm, Golf del Sur continues its commitment to developing a stable of players in the south of the island through sporting values and solid technical training.
